Mornin’, Passengers.  Recently I was reading the book ‘Concrete Island’ by James Ballard, and I had a thought that I should start doing some sketches, or some sort of fan art pieces that refer to the books I read (and I’m working on one for that book right now).  But then I decided to extend the idea to TV shows I appreciate as well.

I don’t know how strict I’ll be with myself about doing these things, but they’re fun exercises to do in between comic pages.  And they’re useful for developing inking skillz.  So here is the first, my tribute to Walter White from the television show ‘Breaking Bad,’ called ‘Chirality.’  Anyone who’s seen the show knows about the duel nature of Walter White/Heisenberg, and I wanted to riff on that a little bit in this drawing.

 Lovely Sunday, beautiful Passengers.  I’m going to be posting some sketches now and then.  I’m basically trying to work on my inking skills…and you all will be the beneficiaries here.  Expect more as I gear up to begin output on comic pages.

Also, you will have noticed the ‘Forthcoming’ across the top button at the right side of the site.  That is covering up the new project I’m hoping to begin this summer.  Those of you that have been following this site for a while will know that I’ve gone through a succession of small crises, floundering here and there as I’ve tried to learn all about this weird craft and settle on one project.  I can assure you that I’ve certainly figured it now.

What was at issue was the fact I truly believed I could work on a variety of detail-intensive projects all at the same time.  As a one man operation this is simply not the case, not with the other endeavors I have going on.  So, it’s with great joy that I’ve finally learned how to focus.  I know, it sounds so simple…but, it’s not…but, it can be.

If I know anything now that I didn’t know nearly two years ago when I began on this crazy path, it’s that making a graphic novel is a ‘Complete’ endeavor, and being that that is the case, you must give yourself over fully to it.  That’s not to say you can’t have other interests or pursuits, it just means that it’s a thing that you absolutely cannot half-ass.  So, with this in mind I offer you new ink drawings of quality.  Hopefully they’ll be enough to tide my friendly Passengers over until there are worthwhile comic pages posted.  Enjoy!

‘So just what is this new direction?  Why all the changes?  Weren’t things nice before?’ you may be asking yourselves.  Not to worry.  This is still the same great place, just with more fire, more fury and more focus…on my part, that is.  You, Gentle Passengers, have done your work admirably!  Getting the word out, sharing Artagem around, that’s what it’s all about, and I thank you.

Keep your seat belts fastened, and hold tight for takeoff.  I’m excited to start unrolling some new, quality works for everyone to see.

I’m not exactly happy with the size the image browser is displaying the pages, so I’m still trying to figure out [...]]]> ‘Stray Flights’ is back and working.  The button to the ‘Stray Flights’ gallery is right there to the right.  All three ‘Stray Flights’ that were previously posted here have been consolidated into one place.
